How Riot ID (GameName#TAG) works and how to change your name
Riot Games replaced legacy Summoner Names with a unified Riot ID shared across League of Legends, Valorant, Teamfight Tactics, and Legends of Runeterra. Your Riot ID has two parts: a 3 to 16 character Game Name and a 3 to 5 character alphanumeric Tagline after the # symbol. Note that this tool does not check live account availability via Riot’s API—it validates length, edge blanks, and Unicode plane compatibility.
Style your 3–16 character Game Name (before the #)
Type your desired Game Name in the box above and optionally add minimalist presets (ツ, 々, 乂, 彡, ♡, ★, ·). Keep the #TAG out of the input box—you will enter your 3–5 character tagline separately on Riot’s account page.
Check the 3–16 length bar, edge-space checks, and card badges
Riot ID allows regular spaces inside a Game Name, but blocks invisible or blank characters at the very start or end of the name ("At least 3 characters", "At most 16 characters", and "No space at the start or end"). Pick a BMP style card without "May show as boxes in some games" or "Uses combining marks" warning badges.
Paste on your Riot Account Management page
Click "Copy" on a compatible style card, sign in at account.riotgames.com, go to the Riot ID section, paste your new Game Name, enter your 3–5 character alphanumeric #TAG, and save. Riot allows a free Riot ID change once every 90 days.
Clean Riot ID & LoL nickname examples and style selection
Uses BMP phonetic small capitals and a real space before ツ—clean in both LoL and Valorant.
Wide CJK aesthetic that renders sharply on PC client scoreboards.
Balanced symmetrical look well inside the 16-character ceiling.
Uses the middle dot (·) and Japanese numeral without triggering punctuation blocks.
Monochrome BMP stars that do not convert into color emojis in client chat.
Combines Small Caps with the hollow heart symbol (U+2661).
Decorative preview vs. actual Riot ID acceptance
Our grid shows all 62 Unicode styles so you can compare them, but Riot’s web portal and in-game scoreboard font only accept Basic Multilingual Plane (BMP) letters—such as Small Caps, Fullwidth, and Greek/Cyrillic look-alikes. Supplemental Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols (U+1D400+) and Zalgo combining marks are flagged with "May show as boxes in some games" or "Uses combining marks" because Riot’s validator typically rejects them.
Native support for Turkish and European accented letters
Riot ID officially supports regional Latin alphabets, including Turkish (ç, ğ, ı, İ, ö, ş, ü) and Spanish/European accented characters (ñ, á, é, í, ó, ú). Because Game Names do not need to be globally unique on their own (only the full GameName#TAG pair must be unique), you can use clean accented words or Small Caps without resorting to unreadable symbol spam.
Why Riot Games rejects a character or Riot ID
- Leading or trailing blank characters: Riot strips or rejects names that start or end with U+0020 (Space), U+3164 (Hangul Filler), U+2800 (Braille Blank), or U+200B (Zero-Width Space). Keep spaces strictly between visible letters.
- Combining mark (Zalgo/Glitch) filters: Stacked diacritics and underline/strikethrough combiners are blocked by Riot’s character sanitizer to prevent health-bar overlap in League of Legends and Valorant.
- Reserved "#" symbol and "Riot" keyword: The hash sign (#) cannot appear inside the Game Name because the client uses it to split GameName and Tagline, and names containing "Riot" are blocked to prevent staff impersonation.
- Tagline restrictions: The 3–5 character #TAG after your name only accepts plain alphanumeric letters and numbers—do not paste fancy Unicode fonts into the Tagline box.

Frequently asked questions
›What are the official Riot ID Game Name and Tagline rules?
A Riot ID has two parts separated by a hash (GameName#TAG): the Game Name must be 3 to 16 characters long, cannot contain the "#" symbol or the word "Riot", and cannot start or end with a blank space; the Tagline after "#" must be 3 to 5 plain alphanumeric characters.
›Does every decorative Unicode style here work as a Riot ID?
No. Riot’s account portal only accepts scripts and symbols in its server whitelist. Basic Multilingual Plane styles without warning badges (such as Small Caps, Fullwidth, and CJK symbols) are the cleanest choices, while cards showing "May show as boxes in some games" or "Uses combining marks" are decorative previews that use supplemental mathematical planes or combining marks often rejected by Riot’s form.
›Does this tool check if a Riot ID is available or already taken?
No—this tool validates character count (3–16) and edge-space rules locally without connecting to a live Riot API. However, because Riot IDs are only required to be unique when combined with their #TAG, multiple players can share the same Game Name as long as the 3–5 character Tagline is different.
›How often can I change my Riot ID for free?
Riot Games allows one free Riot ID change every 90 days at account.riotgames.com (shared across League of Legends, Valorant, Teamfight Tactics, and Legends of Runeterra).
Riot ID length rules are published by Riot Games; character support in the client is not. Not affiliated with Riot Games.
