How to use Unicode fonts and Markdown formatting in Discord
Discord uses two completely different text systems: Display Names, Server Nicknames, and Channel Titles require Unicode font characters (top styler), whereas chat messages and announcements support native Discord Markdown syntax (the 11 ready-to-copy cards in the "Discord text formatting" section below).

Where Markdown works vs. where Unicode fonts work in Discord
Markdown symbols like **bold**, ||spoiler||, and -# small text work inside chat messages, forum posts, and the About Me bio, but they do not render inside Display Names, Server Nicknames, or voice/text channel names (which display raw asterisks). Discord display names and server nicknames can be up to 32 characters. Styled letters and accents can take up more than one, so the counter checks your text and each result shows its own length.
›What's the difference between fonts and formatting?
Fonts here are Unicode characters, so they work anywhere: names, bios and messages. Formatting such as **bold** or ||spoiler|| is Discord Markdown and only works inside messages.
›Why do some styles look like boxes on Discord?
The device viewing your name doesn't have that character. Most phones and computers show these styles; older devices may not.
